How to Actually Enjoy Being in Family Photos (It’s Possible!)
Let's be real: for a lot of moms, the thought of family photos sparks equal parts excitement… and anxiety. You want the memories—yes. But coordinating outfits, bribing kids to cooperate, and figuring out how to look and feel confident in front of a camera? That's where things get messy.
I get it—really. As a Kansas-based travel wedding and lifestyle photographer who specializes in full-service, stress-free sessions, I've heard all the worries. And here's the truth: it doesn't have to be stressful. In fact, I promise there's a way to actually enjoy the experience.
From the moment you book your session, you are not doing this alone.
We plan everything together, down to the location, styling, and timeline that fits your vision.
All you have to do is show up.
Set Realistic Expectations (Especially With Kids)
Here's a secret from years of photographing families , weddings and animals : perfection is boring—real moments are better.
If your toddler or animal refuses to sit still or your baby cries mid-session, that doesn't mean the photos are ruined. It means they're kids—and we build that into our time together. Most of my sessions run past the set time because I prefer the kids or animals to be relaxed so if this means stopping for playtime to chill out time then that’s what we will do.
I never expect everyone to look at the camera with forced smiles for an hour straight. What we do aim for is:
Connection
Play
Cuddles
Laughter
And that's where your favorite images usually come from.
Tangible Memories = Everyday Joy
One of the biggest reasons to actually look forward to your photo session? You'll leave with more than just files.
Our full-service experience includes custom wall art and heirloom albums designed to fit your home and your story. Whether it's a bold statement piece in your living room or a quiet folio box on your shelf, these aren't just "photos"—they become part of your life.
Let's Redefine What Family and Lifestyle Photos Feel Like
Photography doesn't have to feel stiff, stressful, or like a chore. With the right planning, mindset, and experience—it can feel joyful, connected, and even a little magical.
If you're looking for a maternity, family or a lifestyle photographer in Kansas or even beyond who helps you feel seen, supported, and confident (even when your toddler is doing backflips or your furry friend whether it's a dog or horse not partaking), I'd love to chat.
Let's turn this season into something you'll treasure—chaos, cuddles, and all.
Have an amazing family day!
